``Today, Congress is struggling to produce the tiniest shards of regulation that would at least give the appearance of doing something to rein in the Street... The politicians who put off Wall Street regulation for ten months knew that the public would probably lose interest by now.''

In organized crime all the way back to the 1920's the strategy was three pronged, crime, business & politics. The current trend amongst the older crime families has been towards white collar crime (loan sharking, Ponzi Schemes, extortion) while the dirtier & more dangerous fields of drugs, prostitution etc have been left to the black & hispanic gangs. It has to be more than coincidence that the core of our financial system has read & applied the crime families playbook. What is now the Genovese Family (then Luciano Family) ran New York City for decades. Several deals were made involving presidential candidates & even presidents (although as far as is known those deals were not implemented). All this over sixty years ago. I'm not suggesting that organized crime is in control of Wall St; only that Wall St has applied the gangster's business model to their operations. Actually organized criminals are far smarter & better businessmen than the Wall St bankster crowd. The problem is that the banksters have ALL THAT MONEY & they are getting better at crime & corruption fast. Permalink
