The commission watered down and delayed publication of a critical report on Turkey's authoritarian drift under ErdoÄŸan, while drafting in record time an "action plan" for immigration control with Turkey. Jean-Claude Juncker, the commission president, brushed aside concerns about human rights abuses and media crackdowns. He tried to get Turkey added to an EU list of third countries deemed to be safe for refugees.
