Update, and implosion of Spectrum Financial Group - ALL:

Many have written in to inform us that Spectrum Financial Group has declared bankruptcy. Per a notice provided to us by one source:

Dear Friends,

It is with a sad heart that I must inform all of you that effective today at 11:00 am MST my company Spectrum Funding, Inc. announced the cessation of all operations.

Further to the above notice, boston.com has published an article regarding their bankruptcy filing, and in particular, how Spectrum has switched from a Chapter 11 to a Chapter 7 filing. The article notes:

A bankruptcy judge this week converted Spectrum Financial Group Inc.'s Chapter 11 case to a Chapter 7 liquidation after the mortgage lender said it lacked the ability to reorganize. ...

In a terse filing with the court, Spectrum said it "has determined that based upon current operations there is no reasonable likelihood of a successful reorganization."

Conversion to a liquidation under Chapter 7 of the federal bankruptcy code forces a company to let go most of the professionals working on its case. A trustee will be appointed to sell off the company's assets, pursue claims on the estate's behalf and oversee distributions to creditors.

Original Implosion of Spectrum Financial Group - Wholesale from 2007-08-15:

We recieved the following notification in our mailbag regarding Spectrum Financial Group's wholesale operations:

From: Jerry Craig Jr.

Subject: Bank Operation Halted

Good Afternoon,

Yesterday I was informed that Regions Funding is being closed by its parent company Regions Bank. They will no longer be funding loans due to the uncertainty in the market. Unfortunately, while there were no problems with our line with them, this leaves us without the $35M credit facility to fund loans going forward. We do have a secondary warehouse line, however, they have declined to fund every loan we have sent to them, and the facility is very small. Thus, we are halting our bank operation effective immediately. At some point in the future we may reopen and begin funding loans again, but the timing is uncertain at this point. We thank you for your support.

This does not affect the ability of Spectrum Financial Group to Broker Loans, just to fund them and sell them in the secondary market. If you have any questions please direct those to your branch manager, to Jerry Sr or myself.

Sincerely,
Jerry E. Craig, Jr.
President

Regarding Spectrum Financial Group's operations, an informant provided the following:

Last year 80M month, down to 4M this month. We did everything from A+ to sub prime, mostly in the alt-a. Between Vegas and Scottsdale--about 40 Bank employees. Retail is open ... Total employees retail and wholesale at its peak was about 300.

Important: This company is on our list of lending operations that have "imploded". However, please note that "imploded" is a somewhat subjective and does not necessarily mean operations are ceased permanently: it can mean bankruptcy filing, temporary but open-ended halting of major operations, or "firesale" acquisition. All information here is provisional, and may contain inaccuracies (especially newer information). If you are planning on doing business with this company or any other one listed on this site, you should inquire with them directly on whether they can still meet your needs. Many are still operating in some capacity.
