Banks were falling all over themselves to finance buyout deals. Like mortgage lenders who offered super-size loans to folks with no proven income, banks lent billions to buyout kings to buy companies that may have little hope of paying that debt back. Particularly egregious were maneuvers by buyout kings to load additional debt on their portfolio companies in order to pay themselves dividends.''
