Some people are not cut out to be homeowners. I call them NOHOs.

What distinguishes them is not their income, their mobility, or where they live -- rather, it is how they live.

It would a be a sad day when a university professor, who has likely never helped a home buyer into their first home, set the standards for who should and who should not own a home. As has been said many times, "Those who can do, those who can't teach!". By the way, your premise would have prohibited thousands perhaps millions of US Veterans, yes the same ones who put their life on the line to keep your sorry a.. safe, from owning a home under the VA Loan Guarantee program with zero down. Remeber the highly successful $1 in to own a home? Please continue teaching, because you clearly care nothing about struggling young families trying to better themselves by buying and yes paying for their homes. Permalink

I have no problem with this professor. I believe that many should rent. I rent. I rent a better house than I could ever hope to home. I rent where doctors and lawyers live.

So, I hope more people will rent. The excess supply of homes should make that easy. I would not want to try to shoehorn myself or anyone into a house with hidden costs that they cannot afford.

This is the jingle that matters: Rent, and invest the rest! :D Permalink
