" Since the energy crises of the 1970s, the United States has known it has an energy problem. Yet today, the energy requirements in building codes remain weak across half the country, and at least seven states have virtually no rules. That means that in many places, particularly the nation’s heartland, almost every new home, store and factory that goes up locks the country into unnecessary energy use for years to come."

Typical elitist government jerk philosophy. Regulate anything we can make a big profit out of regulating. If real reform of housing codes is your goal why is manufactured housing zoned out of existence EVERYWHERE? Manufactured housing is true efficiency. It's because local jerk governments can't make a living off inspecting every board & nail as the structure is being built. All these extra green requirements & their EXTRA INSPECTIONS are tailor made to feed greedy local government. Half of the time there is no payback in energy efficiency or anything else for these trendy & expensive additions. Permalink
