"National City Bank has launched a promotion paying $300 to customers who open direct-deposit checking accounts, double what any major retail bank in Chicago has offered. Chicago’s fifth-largest bank by deposits, which next June will rebrand itself PNC Bank, is running the promotion until Nov. 28 and is advertising the offer in radio and print spots, a spokesman says."
