"In his Wednesday column headlined "This New Year's Eve, party like it's 1999," syndicated humor columnist Tom Purcell confidently blamed the housing bubble and subprime mortgage debacle of the last decade on the government, through the Community Reinvestment Act, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Though I consider Purcell to be one of the most amateurish writers working in the national media, making such an inaccurate claim in a nationally syndicated column is astounding, even for him."
