A very illuminating analysis. After 1870, when silver was de-monetized, stocks began to get a huge boost, becoming "permanently" more valuable relative to the precious metals. Was this because of so much "lay wealth" redirected from silver into stocks? And has that been good for us as a society? We think not. People (in specific, "the 99%") need a stable vehicle for savings (and even better, for earning their incomes). This way they can be virtually guaranteed to improve their lot over long periods of time. We certainly can't say the same for stocks and the "greenback" dollar.
