"Canadian lawmakers, responding to complaints from consumers such as Golestani, are turning up the heat on the country’s banks. Some opposition politicians say the lenders may be “gouging” clients with credit-card rates as high as 20 percent when the Bank of Canada overnight rate is 0.25 percent. They want the government to impose limits on rates and fees as the economy falls into its first recession in 17 years."
