The House Financial Services Committee launched its own investigation into the alleged fraud and the role of Washington regulators in monitoring and investigating the bank's response to it. The committee asked the bank for documents related to the incidents and said it plans to call Stumpf to testify at a hearing later this month.

The Wall Street Journal reported last Wednesday that federal prosecutors are also in the early stages of an investigation into the sales practices that led to the CFPB settlement.
